The communication process for this project went very smoothly due to the extensive use and integration of social media to communicate instantaneously and effectively.  The group members were able to quickly reach one another for assistance and guidance throughout the duration of this fulfilling endeavor.  Communication between the group members and teachers was clear and open.  Communication between the group members and tech advisors was excellent.  The technical advisors that our group had went above and beyond to help our group, providing great insight into our medical device, and the many emails we exchanged were full of very helpful advice.

Our team gained invaluable information about the research and innovation process surrounding the development of a medical device.  In our inquiry into our product’s functionality and design, we discovered a lot of information about SIDS, a tragic condition that is not well-understood and has no warning signs.  In our research, using reputable sources, our group learned how to compile a viable piece of research.  By contacting people who were experienced in the medical field, we learned about the practical implications and the real-world considerations of our product and how we could improve our pacifier and its sensor to detect SIDS.

 

Three lessons your team learned during the program's duration:

 

1. Our team learned much about the tragic condition known as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and about the few ways to detect it before it takes a life—by monitoring an infant’s breathing during sleep.

 

2. Our team learned how to communicate with each other and experts in order to successfully and effectively accomplish our goals.

 

3. Our team learned how to put together an informative, clear, streamlined, and visually-appealing website.
